FHLB Dallas, Woodforest National Bank and the Mexican American Unity Council (MAUC) celebrated a $150,000 FHLB Dallas Pathway Fund grant awarded through Woodforest to MAUC to address heirs’ property issues in San Antonio, Texas.

Heirs’ property refers to land or homes passed down without a will or clear title, often resulting in complicated shared ownership across generations. Without documented ownership, families may struggle to maintain their homes or protect their property from legal disputes.

“We believe we’ll be able to clear an estimated 150 titles and execute 250 wills with the FHLB Dallas Pathway Fund grant,” said MAUC Chief Operating Officer Crystal Requejo. “This will have a significant positive impact to help San Antonians, including many elderly residents, preserve ownership of their homes,” she said.

Pathway Fund grants are provided through participating FHLB Dallas member financial institutions, such as Woodforest.

“Through our collaboration with the MAUC and support from the FHLB Dallas Pathway Fund, Woodforest National Bank is advancing community reinvestment efforts that tackle heirs’ property challenges, an often-overlooked barrier to generational wealth,” said Community Development Relationship Manager Jesus Cisneros with Woodforest National Bank®. “This funding will help families secure clear title to their homes, reduce displacement risk and gain access to capital for lasting economic stability, which underscores our commitment to meaningful solutions that promote housing stability.”

FHLB Dallas allocated $3 million for Pathway Fund grants this year. Applications will be accepted from August 3 through August 21.

“We’re pleased to partner with Woodforest National Bank® to support solutions that help individuals preserve generational assets like family homes and strengthen communities,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas.
