WAUKESHA, Wis., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — A nationwide shortage of medical imaging professionals has prompted DeVry University and the Pulse Radiology Institute, an Edcetera company, to partner on a new MRI Technology Associate degree specialization. The hybrid program will combine DeVry University’s coursework with the clinical training model and nationwide partner network of the Pulse Radiology Institute to help address a 17.4% MRI technologist vacancy rate — a near-record high per the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Access to clinical placements remains a key constraint on the MRI technologist pipeline because imaging sites have limited capacity to host trainees and many programs leave students to find placements on their own. In the new DeVry University program, students will enroll after placement is secured, starting with online coursework before moving into hands-on clinical experience by the third semester.

“The demand for skilled MRI technologists is creating both a workforce challenge and meaningful career opportunities,” said Jason Horne, DeVry University’s chief strategy and transformation officer. “By combining DeVry’s technology-approach to education with Pulse Radiology Institute’s clinical training model and partner network, we aim to equip students with the skills and hands-on experience employers are seeking while preparing them to succeed in this growing field.”

“This partnership reflects our mission to help professionals advance in licensed careers,” said Nader Qaimari, CEO of Edcetera. “This is exactly the kind of workforce gap we exist to close, and DeVry is the right partner to take the program nationwide.”

As of June 30, 2025, the Pulse Radiology Institute reported a 95% registry exam pass rate, 92% retention rate and 74% on-time graduation rate. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 8% job growth for MRI technologists through 2035, nearly triple the average for all occupations, with median pay of $95,480.*

DeVry University’s new associate degree specialization in MRI Technology is subject to applicable regulatory, institutional and certification-related approvals. Accreditation is pending. Prospective students and clinical partners can learn more at https://edcet.com/devry-mri-tech/.
