To help contractors address these vulnerable areas, W. R. MEADOWS, INC. has introduced WATERSTOP HPW and WATERSTOP LIQUID HPW, two hydrophilic waterstops designed to expand when exposed to water and help create watertight seals in concrete and reinforced concrete construction.
Joints between concrete placements and openings around pipes and cables require careful detailing to help maintain waterproofing continuity. Rough concrete surfaces and variations in joint configurations can also make sealing more challenging. The new products offer complementary strip and gun-grade options for addressing these conditions in vertical and horizontal applications.

WATERSTOP HPW is a hydrophilic swell strip composed of synthetic rubber, designed to seal non-moving construction joints at concrete footings, walls, floors, tunnels, and parking and plaza decks, as well as around pipes and other penetrations. The strip provides controlled swelling, retains its shape through wet-dry cycles, and offers excellent re-swelling performance. It also provides good chemical resistance and swelling capability in high-alkaline environments, with water-stopping performance at pressures up to 87 psi (6 bar).

WATERSTOP LIQUID HPW is a one-component, gun-grade polyurethane sealant that swells up to 500% when in contact with water. Designed for non-moving construction and cold joints, pipe penetrations, and cable wall inlets, it provides excellent adhesion to concrete, metals, and PVC and remains elastic after curing. In applications such as cast-in-place slabs and sheet piles, it can also be pre-applied to provide additional water protection should the primary positive-side waterproofing fail.

The two products can also be used together to address installation conditions. WATERSTOP LIQUID HPW fills minor cracks, voids, and depressions before the strip is installed and serves as an adhesive for WATERSTOP HPW. On rough concrete, it provides additional adhesion while helping prevent water or concrete from seeping beneath the strip. This pairing helps contractors address surface irregularities as part of joint preparation and sealing.
