Consortium releases updated edition 5 of its TALQ Tender Template
PISCATAWAY, NJ, UNITED STATES, October 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The TALQ Consortium, the standards body behind the Smart City Protocol, has published a new edition of its widely used TALQ Tender Template for outdoor lighting. Just in time for the Smart City Expo World Congress in November in Barcelona, the updated ‘TALQ Tender Template’ Edition 5 is now available in seven languages. Edition 5 also includes technical descriptions of the two new DALI D4i TALQ Zhaga Profiles, which increase interoperability between components and allow loss-free communication across entire outdoor lighting networks. The document, available in editable formats free of charge, offers cities and municipalities a streamlined process for drafting tenders that prioritize future-proof, interoperable, and open solutions for smart street lighting from multiple vendors.
Investments in public lighting infrastructure represent long-term decisions. Replacing, or newly designing and implementing street lighting equipment together with intelligent control systems, is a complex and highly technical endeavour. Cities must describe their individual use cases and specific requirements in detail, even though, for many city officials composing a tender for outdoor lighting may be a once-in-a-career task. Translating strategic objectives like energy efficiency, CO2 reductions, protecting the night sky, optimising operational costs and increasing public safety into technical specifications for a tender document can be challenging.
Recognising this challenge more than a decade ago, the TALQ Consortium simplified the process and published with its ‘Pocket Guide for Smart Outdoor Lighting’ a practical tool to help cities focus on their specific needs while leveraging expert insights into state-of-the-art outdoor lighting systems. The updated Edition 5, now called the TALQ Tender Template, builds on this foundation with the latest enhancements.
A comprehensive model tender for cities worldwide
The TALQ Tender Template is based on the experience from of real-world lighting projects tendered and implemented by major cities around the globe. It is designed to help cities, municipalities, utilities, operators, and project developers create their own tenders with reduced effort and greater confidence that they are complete. Additionally, it includes the knowledge and definitions developed in collaboration with the DALI Alliance and the Zhaga Consortium to unify data streams in street lighting systems. On the other hand, the TALQ Tender Template is also beneficial for manufacturers of outdoor lighting systems, as they can reduce their effort required to participate in tenders in various countries when integrating international lighting standards into their solutions.
Key features of the TALQ Tender Template Edition 5 include technical requirements and functional use cases summarised in five major profiles: Lighting Profile, Cabinet Control Profile, Asset Management Profile, DALI D4i Luminaire TALQ Zhaga Profile and DALI D4i Sensors TALQ Zhaga Profile. Furthermore, the template contains wording examples to assist in drafting a thorough tender document with global applicability in English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Dutch and Romanian. An updated Chinese version will also be released soon.
With the latest update, the TALQ Consortium continues to support cities in adopting smart, efficient, and sustainable outdoor lighting solutions while fostering an open and interoperable market for smart city applications. As the previous editions, the TALQ Tender Template is available in various, also editable, formats for free download from the Consortium’s website.
